Cubus Solutions Newsletter: May 2017

The real meaning of collaboration.

We had our third annual Cubus One Collaborations meeting a few weeks ago where we met with our Cubus One customers to discuss future features and collaborate with them on what’s working, what’s not working, their wish list and their challenges and triumphs in general. We value the feedback our customers give us and “more collaboration, less negotiation” is in our manifesto. But what does it really mean? Michael Schrage in his book No More Teams! defines it this way: “Collaboration describes a process of value creation that our traditional structures of communication and teamwork can’t achieve.”  I would add that another key ingredient in the recipe is the concept of “wisdom of the crowds” or collective intelligence.  Mark Granovetter in his 1973 paper, The Strength of Weak Ties, highlights the importance of diversity in the areas of brainstorming, problem solving and ideation. The more diverse the group, the better they are at these tasks. It’s now time to throw my own definition into the mix. Collaboration is highly diversified teams working together inside and outside a company with the purpose to create value by improving innovation, customer relationships and efficiency. A big thank you to all who made it to the meeting and helped us shape the future of Cubus One.

For those Cubus One customers who weren’t able to attend our Cubus Collaborations 2017 and for those that did who would like a recap, we’ll be holding two 90-minute webinars that will cover the highlights. One on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11 am PDT and the other on Tuesday May 16, 2017 at 8 am PDT.
